QUOGUE GALLERY PRESENTS SUSAN VECSEY

NEW YORK, NY, August 16, 2014 – Quogue Gallery is pleased to showcase the work of East Hampton and New York City-based painter, SUSAN VECSEY. Vecsey is widely held in both public and private collections and most recently, Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, acquired White Main Beach for its permanent collection.

Born in Somerville, New Jersey and raised in Franklin Lakes, Vecsey earned her Bachelor of Arts from Barnard College, Columbia University and her Masters of Fine Art from New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, studying under Graham Nickson. A painter interested in creating lyrical and poetic themes, Vecsey uses iconic imagery inspired by nature. References to representational imagery are a starting point, a vehicle to convey a certain emotion and for the exploration of color, form and shape. “There is a great pleasure in the whole process of creating from the anticipation, the processing to the realization.” Vecsey’s oil stained linen and paper works carry on the Color Field and Minimalist traditions in a contemporary context. Her ideas begin with charcoal drawings on paper made from perception followed by elaborate color studies. The paint is then thinned and poured directly on to the linen or paper allowing it to flow naturally with some guidance from the artist. “With poured paint, timing is everything, and it is important to be decisive with it and also ready to accept or reject the unexpected.”

Vecsey was recently included in Guild Hall’s Selections from the Permanent Collection curated by Christina Strassfield. Her work debuted with Berry Campbell in February at Art Wynwood in Miami followed by a full-scale exhibition in June at Berry Campbell in Chelsea. Several of Vecsey’s works are currently included in the Hamptons Showhouse in Bridgehampton through Mabley Handler Interior Design. Her exhibition at Quogue Gallery will run from August 16 – September 29, 2014.

SUSAN VECSEY lives and works in East Hampton, New York and New York City.
